Here we are back in the news room wrapping up day three of the Altador Cup. Fans have been celebrating since before the results were posted, somewhat prematurely in some cases! This year seems to be the year of the underdog as many smaller teams are pulling ahead as major powerhouses so far. Terror Mountain, Virtupets and Tyrannia have all surprised many fans as they dominate former powerhouses even in Yooyuball!

Tyrannia and Virtupets went head to head today, and the candidates for fledgeling powerhouse status did not disappoint. The two teams were literally neck in neck the entire game, with Virtupets pulling ahead with one second on the clock in Yooyuball. Make Some Noise ended in a tie, and Tyrannia won both Shootout Showdown and Slushie Slinger.

Roo Island dominated in Yooyuball once again, but that was all for the Rooligans. The match ended in a draw in both Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, with the Mystery Islanders coming out ahead in Shootout Showdown.

The Darigan Citadel Minions managed to seize the chance for a little payback against their neighbours in Brightvale, stopped just short of a sweep when the Wizards managed to pull even in Slushie Slinger. Brightvale is in no mood to back down this year however, and day four will see the Wizards back on their feet and going head to head with the Shenkuu Ninjas.

Despite continued rioting from rowdy fans, we have another reporter live on scene. We have Lydia live on the scene of the Moltara vs. Altador game, where it seems a little bit of history has been made. Lydia?

“--no you can't have my microphone. Oh I'm on. Reporting live from the field, the Moltarans have exploded in excitement - literally the field was accidentally set on fire. A little bit of history, this is Moltara's second cup, and they came in dead last last year. Currently placed 14th, the hot heads have a brighter outlook this tournament.

A few of the Altador team members were taken to the hospital to have minor burns looked at, but we've been reassured they will be fine for tomorrow's match against [indistinct] Darigan Citadel? If I were them I'd stay sick. Anyway, Moltara has won their first Yooyuball match, ever. Everything was in their favor - they came out of the gates strong and manage to block all of Altador's goals.

Hey give me that - [thump]

‘W! L! W! W! Ha ha HA! We are ALIVE! Oh YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! GO MARAQUA!'

Give that back to me now! [thump] How did he even get in here? And now he's getting dragged away by fellow fans dressed in blue.

Anyway, back to the game at hand, Altador did manage to pull ahead in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, with Moltara also taking Shootout Showdown.

Back to you, uh, Lydia signing off.”

We really should get some guards for those poor reporters out there... Another success story lies with Shenkuu today in their game against Kiko Lake. Shenkuu fans had started to celebrate a sweep of Kiko Lake when a last minute goal and last minute slinging like I had never seen before brought Yooyuball into a tie and Kiko Lake as the winners of Slushie Slinger! The Lakers almost burst with excitement when their team pulled up. Though they're tied for last place on the leaderboard, these are early days yet, and there are plenty of opportunities for teams to scale the leaderboard.

Team Haunted Woods took a severe pounding in their match against Kreludor. While the Zombies couldn't make much headway on the Yooyuball field, their fans' spirits weren't dampened by much, and both Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise finished with both teams dead-even. Kreludor's unrelenting effort in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown put them ahead overall however, as the team pushes to establish itself on the leaderboard as early as possible.

Faerieland managed to hold its own against Krawk Island, dominating in Slushie Slinger, and pulling the score to a tie in Make Some Noise, but were blown out of the sky (figuratively speaking) in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown. Faerieland supporters are optimistic that they will continue this slinging streak throughout the entire tournament, and indeed their slinging so far has matched that of long-standing Slushie Slinger champions Tyrannia.

Lost Desert seems to be suffering from the winner's curse of the worst kind - they're currently clocking in at 15th. Terror Mountain nearly swept them today, although the Mummies stymied the Chillers' efforts in Slushie Slinger, bringing the game to a draw. Terror Mountain is doing exceptionally well this year, currently tied for first on the leaderboard, and many analysts will be quick to point out that the Lost Desert has had one of the toughest opening schedules of any team this season.

Finally for today's round up, we have an early round one match that's almost become a tradition in the Altador Cup: rivals since AC I, Team Meridell and Team Maraqua crossed guards once again on day three, and this time around it was the Maraquan Mermaids who started the match strong, drawing ahead on all fronts but the slushie stands, where the Knights dug in valiantly and came away with a clear victory. The overall win went to the Maraquans however, an unusual outcome for when the slow-starting Mermaids are pitted against the hardy, dangerously unpredictable Knights - fans from both teams were quite sporting about the results, with a couple of exceptions, as Lydia unfortunately found out earlier.

Well, we're only three days into the tournament, and it seems there's not a single team without a victory on at least one front - all the usual underdogs are bringing their absolute best to the field, and it looks like it's paying off. This year will definitely be a competition to watch!

In other news, Pizzaroo has reported many delays in delivering pizza tonight due to the sheer number of people attempting to order celebratory pizza (which appears to have overloaded the servers responsible for handling credit card transactions). Hubert's Hotdogs on the other hand, has reassured us that they are having no such delays!

This is Lydia and AA, reporting for The Daily Neopets, signing off.

Guess fellow Brightvale players never read the book Altadorian Archives, Altador Cup Magazine, The Goalie, Altador Cup Rule Book (Thanks to their cheating), Taking the Offensive or When to have Goals Early from Hagan's Library and thus they lost to Darigan citadel who learnt it all! Go DC!

Wow, bottom four. I thought I'd never see the day. sad01_anim.gif I wouldn't trade this team for the world, but I hoped we would have had a better start, difficult teams or not. Did other teams with the curse start off as badly as we're doing?

I was quite happy with out victory in SOSD against the Terrors the other day, but even happier with yesterday's result! :D Third match, first victory! Hooray! I call it "drowning the opponent". And boy did we Mermaids drown the Knights! Now, off to "drown" some Pirates!

Actually, taking your match-ups into account, the Lost Desert is actually doing fairly well for a curse-hit team. :)
