Does it make anyone else suspicious?

I always find it weird when you see people who's accounts are only a few months old and they are selling or trading some of the most expensive paintbrushes, pieces and morphing potions, etc. Even multiples of the same item.

I mean, obviously it could have come from an old account and they just transferred everything but why start a new account?

I don't know, just makes me suspicious.

Am I being dumb or do some of you think like that too?

I agree with you that it could be suspicious, but I don't think that every account will be.

My account is only just over a week old, but I've had lots of good advice from others on TDN and managed to save up 30k through games and dailies. I found a ghost paintbrush in a user shop where they were selling lots of things like paintbrushes, nerkmids, crackers etc. It was only 25k!

I think that the occasional item a newish account is selling is most likely not suspicious, but when it is multiples I find that strange.

some of them are , but some are starting over , or they joined after a friend recommended the site and they got lots of gifts to start off ...there are several possibilities .. newbie accts with lots of trophies are what i suspect mostly though

Some people might use a side account to lend out avatar items to keep their identity a secret..but yeah seeing a young account with a lot of nifty stuff in the trading post makes me a little suspicious I guess you could say

But I agree with Angelo! Even worse for me is seeing a young account with a highly sought after avatar (SuAP)...or a really random hard to get one...I'm looking at you snowy.... lol jealousy

I am with you on this one. I see it A LOT. I am fairly good at games, not the best, but after 6-1/2 years, to get bumped out of trophy position by a newbie with rows and rows of trophies is very odd to me. The only thing I can think of in a case like that, and it is still not legal in neopets, is that they were playing on someone else's account, a sibling's, a friend's, whoever, then got their own account, or they are starting over and are just good at games.

Lots of rare paint brushes is odd though because after all these years, I have been online daily for about a year and a half now, and playing neoquest 2 (gives a lot of REs) and in that time I have won 3 PBs & petpet PB from dailies, 3 MPs from dailies, a Transmog potion and baby MP from REs, 2 MPs from the battledome, and a few nerks and map pieces from REs. Yes, that is a decent amount of stuff, and even if you only consider the amount of time I have been playing on a daily basis, 1-1/2 yrs is still NOT a newbie. I had a friend give me an inexpensive ogrin MP, and I gave her a secret lab map piece. But most neofriends aren't going to just give you a pirate PB, a stealth or wraith PB. And I wouldn't expect that. It is odd to have that kind of collateral as a newbie.

I only put those items in to explain that in my 6 years, I haven't accumulated 20 stealth pbs, or 15 pirate pbs. It is definitely odd. That is my total accumulation in my 6-1/2 yrs. Pitiful actually. :sad02:

I recently started replaying neopets (4 months ago... maybe not that recently!) and what I hae been able to get, through playing games and habitarium:

Faerie Paint Brush

Tuskaninny transmorgrification potion

Pirate krawk morphing potion

Lab map set

snow paint brush

camouflage paint brush

some wearables that are a bit more than 10k

But I really saved everything I could for a while. So, the item part is not as suspicious for me. The trophies, however, are. I just got the altador plot one, an altador cup one, the better than you (silver), and the beating punchbag bob. So, rows of trophies is what I find strange in a new account.

But hey, it could be that there are awesome flash game players out there :)

You know, this grinds my gears. Mainly because this hits me on a more personal level. I finally got my mom to sign up for an account just to play games. That's all she wanted was more games to play than what's available on FB and her tablet. So I guess she got a really good score in one of the games and I think it earned her a trophy or something. It was reviewed and it passed. I remember her asking me about it and she goes "they said I passed and got the money for it." I'm not that good at games, I didn't even know they reviewed them. *shrug* So I didn't think anything of it until she called me one day saying it repeatedly kept telling her her password didn't work. I tried to troubleshoot it and found out they froze her. I thought it was part of that bug after the transition so I wrote it on behalf of my mom because she obviously couldn't send in a ticket and they told me someone reported her for cheating on the games with a program. Wait, What? Who would do that? The only person she knows on this site is me and I sure didn't do it. So I wrote back I'm like "my mom plays on a tablet, thats ridiculous. She's also 55 years old. She doesn't need to cheat games on a little kid site." I was furious but she laughed and said to forget it she'll just play her facebook games which is what I was trying to get her away from. One more invite to play Big Fish Casino or farmville or whatever and I'm going to have to block my own mother from FB. -_-

But apparently this happens a lot more commonly than I thought because while researching if these programs exists (spoiler alert: they do - [Removed] are the two I found ) and there is like a whole underground network of people doing this, like figuring out how to safely do it without getting caught and all this fanfare and I'm like the internet meme going "wut? Y U No work in software development? Y U No get huge paycheck from microsoft or apple? Idiot."

A lot of people want to see those rows of trophies to feel accomplished and I get that. But I suck at games so all I think when I see that was "wow, someone was bored" or "overachiever!" I mean I just did the whole thing of Snow Wars for the trophy you know, just to see if I'd finally get what everyone was one about with the whole trophy thing (I look at my old account and kind of miss my site event trophies) but dios was that boring! I keep trying to do Neoquest and I can't stomach it, it is soooooo boring. All that for a trophy?

The verdict on whether it is worth it or not: First degree Hard pass.

I have always wanted a trophy for Hasee Bounce though. I love that game but I just cannot get a score over 401. :( It's literally the only game of the flash games that I want the trophy just to be like "haha suckkkas I got it!" Other times I've had trophy envy just because the trophy image itself looks neat. I like the creepy/spooky/halloween ones like Fetch or Scorcer's Skirmish. (That is the one with the wizard hat looking thing right? IDK. I play like 7 games in that whole game room LOL.)

Also, the only other reason would be a name change! I did it. One of my old accounts is "iluvalexsolowitz" that I now use as a side. Ten points to gyrfindor if you know who alex solowitz is without googling him. But I made the account when I was 11 (I didn't lie about my age on it like I did with my current main) and no longer even care about him, so the name annoyed me and I switched mains. Only thing is that I switched to an account that was basically the same age so I never had that problem. But I have sides that I made that if I had moved to one of those would have presented a problem I guess. I'm just super annoyed about my mom's account getting frozen for a BS reason.

It makes me suspicious, now after the duping more than ever. People who cheat use shell accounts to sell their goods so they don't risk their main account so when I see accounts like the ones you're describing it makes me wonder.

:( That's too bad about your mom's account. Some people are just jealous Janes and Joshes.

I don't agree with your stance on trophies. Everyone has their niche in what they are good at. For some people, it's games. If they're going to achieve in something, why wouldn't it be something they're good at?

When people create new accounts, they still have the talent for those games. (Although why some people feel the need to get the same trophy every month just confuses me!)

Just keep working at the score, and try to do a little better each day and you'll eventually get there! Follow some guides and use the codes to your advantage.

What confuses me, as a long time Neo player, I have gotten pretty good at some aspects of the site. My trophies are all games which don't require beating the high scores as I'm not a huge gamer and not very good at all. However, I have the likes of Cheat, Solitaire etc as they are easily learned. I also have Dungeon Dash and Bruno trophy as I practised like crazy on my old account since max score gets trophies. My account is not yet a month old and I have had comments saying I had ALOT of trophies? Grinds my gears. I do agree on the point when a newbie account has rows and rows of gold trophies, especially when they have very few avatars.

Forget the game trophies! I'm drooling over your kad trophy!!

As you said, the majority of the trophies are ones that anyone can get rather easily. (I'm not saying anything bad about the amount of work you've done to get them, because they can take a bit of work.) But it's just that, work. If you put some effort into it, anyone can get them. I would check to see what trophies they have. Maybe they're just jealous!

This totally got away from the original purpose of this thread.

I don't really find game trophies that suspicious or anything like that, it's more the items they have.

When there are 2 month old accounts selling ALL the rarest paintbrushes, it worries me. [Also makes me kind of jealous, not gonna lie.]

Just makes me wonder how you can get all that that quickly.

I get wary of new accounts selling items too, especially if they're going a little cheap, it makes me worry that the person cheated/hacked someones account.

I'm incredibly cautious on the trading boards, as people feel really viscous there.

I mean PC can be incredibly drama-y, but you feel less like people are going to hack your account for an item you're advertising.

(maybe I'm being paranoid? But... I love my account, and I'd rather not advertise my item on the trading board than risk it.... Is that normal?)

I played Neopets like 10 years ago back in grade school and only just got back into it a month ago with a new account. Back then 10k neopoints felt like a ton of money because I knew little about how games worked at the time.

Now it only took me like 2 weeks to make 1.5m neopoints starting from nothing and still thought I progressed slowly.

If you're good at games I can easily see how a new account could have some nice things on it especially if you're familiar with how game markets work. Playing things like WoW or the Steam Market Place where items are traded between players for profit makes neopoint acquisition feel so much easier in comparison.

Agree with you 100%. For a new player it is hard to make more than 10k? per day, but an experienced player who knows what to do could make 1 million NP in a week easily - even on a brand new account.

Unfortunately at the moment, everyone is suspicious of everything.

As a player with a one week old account, I'm discouraged from playing Neopets for precisely the reasons mentioned by the OP in this thread.

I think the easiest way to have people not distrust you is to put a little effort into your account as a newbie.

When I interact with new accounts, I have a look at what their pets look like, the size of their shop (if it's stocked at all) have the put any backgrounds around, updated any of their petpages /etc. etc.

If they've done nothing, I'm very wary, because they could be running a scam.

If they've put in some effort, and look like they're actually here to play neopets on that account, then I'm happier to trade/etc.
