Hello...Again!

Hello everyone, yes even you lurkers at the back!

Seems I've not been active for quite a while here, and it's even been nearly two years since I've been on Neopets at all.

Partially because my old computer was pretty much steam driven and partially because I started a family (and I'm sorry but cute baby trumps cute virtual pets any day!)
But now he's got a bit older and more independent and I stuck some more coal in the computer, I'm baaaack!

So, what have I missed?!

Hello o/ Coal-fired computers are great, aren't they? *has coughing fit* My old one was hamster-driven...I love your nerdy Hello Kitty avatar, she's such a cutie. Ooh, you're a Brit too, cool. Or to be more accurate, @%&*$£! freezing right now! D:<

I know right, -5 last night, and still no snow *shakes fist at sky*

And thank you I love Hello Kitty lots, I have about 300 different kitty things dotted about my house. Car boots are great things!

That's the great thing about being the adult in the house, isn't it, (hopefully) no authority figure telling you you've got too many of X item. :laughingsmiley: If you've bought it yourself (or it's something they gave you) they can just shut up. xD If I had the money I'd definitely spend it on cute things, especially Studio Ghibli, because cute is good and makes you happy :D

Lol, how British we are, talking about the weather. Look at us, people, living up to our stereotype :woot:

*passes cups of tea round*

Hehe all of my family and friends know how obsessed I am, birthday and Christmas is always full of kitty goodness. I'll grow up one day (naaaaah!)

And I love studio ghibli films too, Howls Moving Castle is probably my fav but Totoro runs a very close second though!

I was actually very strongly anti-hello kitty up until I turned 18ish for reasons I'll never understand (probably the typical teen wanting to be seen as a serious adult and not wanting presents that they see as "kid stuff"), but I always got a lot of hello kitty stuff as presents and I absolutely hated it.

But I'm also a pack rat in real life, so I rarely got rid of the presents. And now, as an adult, I get to reap the benefits of years of hello kitty presents that younger me never bothered to give away. And growing up is completely overrated. It's definitely not the grand adventure that younger me made it out to be - I'll take neopets and hello kitty over bills and responsibility any day.

Also, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke forever.

I've still never seen Totoro whoops, but I did get a picture with him at the Studio Ghibli exhibit in Korea?

*sips tea* Why thank you, Sorrel :D But...WAIT! No biscuits?! *whips out emergency Hobnobs and offers*

You have that to look forward to then :D I'm glad I'm not the only one who was buying Totoro things before they'd even seen the film, lol, Totoro just has that effect on people I think. I got to watch From up on Poppy Hill on the TV this morning which was a treat, I especially love Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away, but I think Poppy Hill's my favourite out of the Ghibli's that I've seen so far. I usually watch them on KissAnime on my laptop, but the Film 4 channel here in the UK regularly shows Ghibli films and they've just started on them again, next one's Porco Rosso next Sunday. Princess Mononoke was shown yesterday, but I missed the first 20 minutes, and then my mum called me and we chatted for an hour, so by the time I turned the volume back up I really didn't have a clue what was going on, lol, definitely one I need to watch uninterrupted!

Ooh, I've never seen Poppy Hill. I'm going to have to look into that.

Also, Princess Mononoke absolutely deserves (and requires) your full attention. It's completely incredible. I love that it shows "good" and "bad" but also the gray areas inbetween. Ugh it's beautiful Studio Ghibli did an amazing job. I highly highly highly recommend it.

Hope you like it if you do watch it :D it's more low key than most Ghibli films, I think, there's no magic/fantasy involved so it's a little different to what people might expect, but I love it, it's my go-to thing to watch when I'm feeling a bit down, because it makes me calm and happy.

The last half of Princess Mononoke did get my full attention, but because I'd missed the first hour and 20 minutes of it I was quite confused. I still enjoyed what I watched but as you say, it deserves to be seen without distraction.

Lol, I'm wanting to visit KissAnime now and watch me some Ghibli! *looks at clock* 1:54am...not such a good idea :shiftyeyes_anim: I can hear Sophie calling to me though...

I will definitely check it out! My go-to sad movie is Pride & Prejudice because I'm a ridiculous sap - even with all of it's inaccuracies, it still makes me happy.

Now I'm curious - did you sleep or did you watch something?
I will be very impressed if you slept because Sophie is rather persuasive.

Haha, I did sleep, eventually, was close to 6am when I went to bed D: Didn't watch Howl though (might do that later today :woot: ) I held off watching anything because of how late I'd end up eventually going to bed, then I got distracted by playing on Bloons Monkey City :shiftyeyes_anim:

Ok so very important question here, Pride & Prejudice...what version? I have the DVDs of the BBC adaptation and because I adore that version so much I don't want to watch the Hollywood movie, lol. NO-ONE but Colin Firth for Darcy! :rolleyes_anim:

LOL, just found this online, says it all. xDD

SO FUNNY STORY.

I've never seen the BBC version - but I have always wanted to. I have never been able to find it in an accessible watching place either. Netflix is forever disappointing me by not having it. So I actually checked it out from my library two weeks ago - and then I didn't have any time to watch it. So then I re-checked it, and it's due tomorrow, and I still haven't watched it.

Hopefully no one has put it on hold and I can recheck it for a third time and binge watch it over Thanksgiving holiday.

Hope you think is was totally worth it once you finally get to see it! I'll watch the movie one day, but I know I'll be judgemental about it, lol. I'm just watching the trailer on Youtube, I didn't realise Judi Dench played Lady Catherine, she rocks, that's a perfect role for her. The guy who plays Mr. Collins doesn't look anywhere near as repulsive as in the BBC version, lmao.

I'm sure I will! It cannot be terrible if everyone loves it so much, and I'm honestly pretty easily pleased. Which is probably why I love the movie so much - and the fact that I adore Kiera Knightly. Judi Dench was wonderful (like always), and the guy playing Mr. Collins isn't repulsive, I admit, but he does a good job being exactly the kind of guy you'd avoid at a party because he's the wrong kind of awkward and excessively annoying.

I think I probably will watch the movie the next time I see it's on the TV, it's Judi Dench that's swayed it for me. I want to see the alternative Mr. Collins too, he's a real insufferable toady in the BBC version as well as being fairly visually repellant, so I'm interested to see how similar (or not) the movie version of him is. He certainly doesn't have the greasy hair that the BBC him does, lol.

Yay! Hopefully you don't absolutely hate it haha. But I also look forward to comparing the two when I watch the BBC version (hopefully within the next couple of days...)

And then of course we can compare notes after.

*swoons at Mr Darcy*
The film isn't actually that bad, but then I was force fed about 10 different adaptations in high school, so compared to some earlier versions on shaky cameras anything is gonna look good I guess!

Netflix is currently calling me due to Jessica Jones landing (I'm a bit of a Super Hero geek too!)

Jing, absolutely! I have to watch the movie now, purely for research purposes. ;D

Hey Sorrel o/ A nice surprise to come back to your thread and discover Colin Firth? xD

Something tells me that it's a really good thing that I can't afford Netflix, lol.

Hey, if they're happy for you to do that then excellent! If you're telling me that you're secretly leaching it off them, then not so much. :shiftyeyes_anim: :laughingsmiley:

If I had someone to freeload netflix off of, I totally would. I got lucky in that I caved and paid for it a couple years ago, so when they bumped up the prices they let me keep my old price. So that's nice.

Also, leeching is so much nicer now that you can create separate profiles. No more messing up my recommended shows because of the random stuff my little sister occasionally watches!

I'm in the middle of watching Heros with my boyfriend, but we plan to start Jessica Jones after! Especially since we loved Daredevil and we've heard nothing but good things about it (plus my boyfriend is a huge comic book nerd).

Bah, just caught myself looking at the UK Netflix prices *slaps hand* NO! Plans starting from £5.99 a month, as in, cheapest package that no-one wants = £5.99, right? NOPE, not researching further, it's £5.99 that I just don't have. All the cool stuff that's on there will filter down to the free TV channels eventually,  right? I'd just better not hold my breath waiting. :laughingsmiley:

Huh. Before you mentioned "plans starting from", I had been unaware that was even more than one option. Back when I signed up there was only the one. So I guess I've got the most basic pack because I certainly never signed up for more than that. And honestly it works perfectly fine for me, so I wouldn't say that no one wants it haha.

But yes, you don't really need it and from what I can tell your free TV is better than american free TV anyway!
