Neopets on mobile

Does anyone else play neopets on their mobile device? Has anyone been having issues with ads for apps?

I like to play Neoquest II on my phone. It's an html heavy game, so there's lots of page reloads instead of flash based stuff.

Recently I've been getting ads for gaming apps when I browse neopets on my mobile. The ads redirect the entire neopets page to a different website completely (usually called www.adtracking.com or something similar). I normally don't mind ads because I understand neopets need to pay their awesome staff, but the mobile ads are getting ridiculous. It's at the point where I am being redirected to another website every time I click on a link inside neopets.

These ads are making it impossible to play neopets on a phone. Is anyone else dealing with this?

What mobile browser are you using? And what kind of device (Android, iOS, etc)? AdBlock Plus is available for Android and I believe iOS 9 and later. "Mileage" may vary, though. Dolphin (browser) has an ad block plugin for its mobile browser. TBH, I don't play Neopets on my tablet. I do know Neopets has been using Playwire as one of their ad content providers. Playwire can provide ads in HTML 5 format, and many mobile browser are able to support (some) HTML 5 standards. That could explain the ads running. If they were Flash based, and your device doesn't support Flash, I would think the ads wouldn't play. Not sure if there is a way to block Playwire, specifically.

Yes, it happens to me as well. It is not games for me because I have premium on my main, however it happens when I go on my sides to feed my pets. I am on Android and using the Chrome browser. Yesterday I went to the soup kitchen and I couldn't even click on my pet to feed it before I was redirected. I backspaced 3 times and it kept happening. Finally I managed to stay on the page and feed my pets, but it was a frustrating situation. I have noticed this on other sites as well, particularly the list type sites. I will be scrolling through the list and suddenly when I click next, instead of the page going to the next item, I get redirected. I understand why ads run on the sites in the first place, however it is one thing to have an ad appear on a page, or even appear as a popup that can be closed, but to actually redirect a person to a different page so they can't even do what they wanted to do on the original page, I personally think this is a rude and invasive advertising tactic. It doesn't make sense either because I would think these sites would want people to stay on there and do stuff, then go to an advertised site when/if ready, instead of going to the page just to be involuntarily sent away. That is if the sites are choosing the type of advertising, maybe it doesn't work that way. In any case, it's rather frustrating.

I've read complaints on the "Help" Neoboard, from regular players (non mobile) for 6 minute ads and ads that redirect to another page/site. The latter is most interesting, as Neopets will not let you mention or post links to third party websites, so why would they let an ad provider do the same? However, I do understand that websites, like Neopets, do not know what ads are being displayed/played. I would report those to Neopets. They just might be able to get their ad content provider to stop using those ads.

I have also been having the same problems. I've got Android and it happens on Chrome and Internet Explorer. The back button doesn't do anything so I literally have to start all over and pray I can get further than the previous time. It's super frustrating!

I'm on safari on an iPhone. Sometimes I use chrome but it's the same story.

Wow I'm very interested now that I know many of us are having the same issue. If I did bring this to neopets attention, what do you think is the best way to go about it? I know it's ultimately neopets choice as to which ads they choose to use, but if it's making people avoid their website, I'd think they'd want to know, right?

This happens to me all the time! I play Neopets on an IPhone in my safari browser and it seems like every other click brings up an ad that takes me off of Neopets!

Since this thread was started a while ago, does anyone have anything that they've found that helps?

You could try an ad blocker app or ad blocker browser for your iOS device. Not sure how well they are, as I haven't tried one on my iPad.
