Accessing Old Account

Hi All!

 

I would love some help. I am a long long time neopets player returning after a significant hiatus. I want very much to get back into my old account. I can't remember what the password was for it, but I do know the birthday. Unfortunately, the email address that is connected to the account no longer exists.

 

I wasn't sure what email was associated with the account so I attempted to do the password retrieval by having them reset it through email. Whoops! I've already submitted a ticket through a new account on trying to get access.

 

In the mean time, I was going to try a combination of what may be my password. My question is - since I had them reset it through email, is it now some random jumble and won't convert back to the actual password? Even if the email address is no longer valid? I tried sending an email to that email address and it gave me a permanent delivery failure.

 

Just curious if anyone has had to go through this, and if it is even worth my time to guess the old password?

Have you checked to see if the account is still existing though? TNT has done some purges...Sadly, my original account got purged so I never got it back. Also, Have you tried re-creating that email address? If it's defunct, maybe the username is available. Just some ideas, Hope you get into your account soon :)

Acmerasta has some GREAT ideas. Before you go through all the hassle, check to make sure your account still exists.  Create a side account, and check your old user name.  If it is still in the system, ie. hasn't been purged, then keep trying to recover your password.  I NEVER thought of re-using the email acct.  You could do that if it isn't working/given out to anyone else.  Tis the reason why I always use email accounts that are always available such as gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.  When you use email accts linked to your ISP, and you get a new ISP, there goes your email accts.  But your yahoo, gmail, etc. accounts will follow you around no matter what ISP you use.  Just some food for thought.

So there is no way to re-create the email address unfortunately. But that is definitely a great idea for others!

Thanks for those ideas! My account still exists (which is wonderful :) ). As far as the email address, it was a college email address where the university deleted all the alumni email accounts. So there is no way to re-create the email address unfortunately. But that is definitely a great idea for others!

 

My main email is gmail - so I am really bummed that I didn't have the foresight to switch the email address previously.

Ah yes, I had the same thing happen with my college email account.  Luckily, I didn't use it for anything like this, but I suppose if you started your Neopets acct while you were in college, that would have been the logical thing to do  :graduated: .  It's a great thing that your acct still exists, there is a good chance of getting it back.  Good luck.

Regarding trying passwords, you should still be able to do so, even though you've tried the account recovery.  I've done this several times over my years at neo - the account recovery (forgot password) will only activate if the email is opened and the link is clicked.  You should be able to try 5 different passwords each day.

 

If you've sent a ticket to TNT from a different account, I'd let them know you're trying to get in.  It would really suck to send a ticket, get into your old account without it, only to have TNT freeze it for 'security reasons'.  

 

One thing to keep in mind: Relatively recently, Neo had a security breach, and froze a bunch of accounts to protect them.  That's why theres that recaptcha everytime you search a username.  Just another reason to be cautious if you're going to try getting into your account - TNT has been icing a lot :K

Good luck on getting your account back:)! I am in a similar situation and submitted the ticket around the same time. let's hope for the best.
