  1. @Nielo Nope, I hadn't seen that page! I tried the bat file - nothing happened, then I tried the hosts file - it made things worse, so I changed it back, lol. I'm afraid I might have to contact my ISP :guiltysmiley: I was really dreading that option.

    @Scoobert_Doo
    1. I hadn't tried that, but I did now - sadly, it didn't work
    2. No, I don't use VPN!
    3. I don't think so
    4. It happens with other sites too
    5. Yes, it's happening with other browsers too... :\
    6. I tried 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, as well as 4.4.2.1 and 4.4.2.2
    7. I don't talk to my neighbours, lol. I asked my brother, and he says he isn't having issues, but I'm not sure I believe him
    8. I haven't, because I was really trying to avoid them, lol. But I guess I ran out of options now, huh? :sad02:

I was able to access neopets from the IP address, and still had issues. I can't remember if I got a Windows Update recently, so I guess I didn't.

I will contact my ISP later today, hopefully they'll solve it. I'll let you guys know what happens! Thank you so much for your help

  2. Hey guys! ^_^ So, I've been having a "Resolving host..." issue with Chrome, meaning that pages are slow to load if they load at all. I keep seeing "Resolving host..." and "Waiting for neopets.com..." (same with other urls) on the status bar. Then a while later, I'll get a "Unable to connect to the internet" error, even though I am connected. Once I get this error, the only way to "fix" it is by restarting my computer. Resetting my router makes no difference. After restarting my computer, I can browse the internet for about a couple of hours before I get the error message again.

Before I continue, here's some possibly relevant info-
Computer: An 8+ year old Sony Vaio laptop
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Basic
Browser: Google Chrome Version 71.0.3578.98 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Other: I had a new router installed (not by me) about a month ago. But this issue has been going on for a little over a week.

Anyway, I looked up this issue, and it appears to be DNS / proxy related. Not that I know what that means, but I've found lists of things to try, so here's what I've tried so far:

    • Checked for Malware on Malware Bytes, Spybot, RKill and Avast
    • Changed DNS server to public DNS server
    • Disabled "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)"
    • Ran a bunch of commands on Command Prompt
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /all
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /renew
    netsh int ip set dns
    netsh winsock reset
    • Unchecked "Use a prediction service to load pages more quickly" option in Chrome settings

Another common suggestion seems to be: "Uncheck 'Automatically Detect Settings' in LAN settings", but I'm unable to do that because the box is greyed out. Apparently I don't have permission, even though I'm the only user on my computer and I supposedly am the administrator. I read that I could change this via a Group Policy editor, but alas, I don't have one (apparently because my OS is the Home Basic variety). So the alternative would be to mess around with regedit. I went to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet and disabled "ProxyEnable" by changing the value from 1 to 0. It made no difference. I don't know where I'd need to go to fix this "Automatically Detect Settings" thing... Assuming this is what I actually need to do, of course. I'm pretty lost.

Please note that I don't actually understand what I'm talking about, I'm just parroting what I gathered from instructions.

If anyone can help me with this, I will be forever grateful :blush02:

  3. LOL @ silent movie version! xD

I just tried Firefox, and saw this:

(I didn't feel like logging in to see all of them :P)

If Firefox weren't so slow for me, I'd switch. So I guess I'll just keep using the old ones...

My oldest is a plushie addict and she's only 7 years old!

OMG, ME!!! I just had a flashback, lol. In second grade, we made a book for our class, so everyone had to write a page about themselves. Here's a snippet from my page:

That shiny green dragon, Cinder, is soooo adorable and I love him! He was the prettiest one the store had at the time. My middle monster got that one and Darla belongs to my oldest.

I'm not usually drawn to shiny things, but that dragon had me mesmerised! If I ever see a smaller version of it, I might just get it.

Anyway, I made the mistake of checking out their website, and now I'm obsessed with this one too:

I need to say sorry now for feeling the need to explain to you where the TDN emojs are, Deb, seems I forgot momentarily that you've been on this site a lot longer than I have. facepalm.gif

ROFL don't worry about it! Being here a long time means nothing when you're as scatterbrained as I am  Pointing out what's obvious to most people often helps, actually

The 'new' emojis are just the same Unicode emoji used widely on, well, nearly everything. Different operating systems will display them differently - different phones (Android, iOs, etc), different computer operating systems (Windows versions, macOS versions, etc), and I believe if your computer is old, it may not support the unicode version required to display emojis. How old is your computer and what operating system are you using?

Ah, that explains a lot... my computer is at least 7 years old (but I'm guessing 8/almost 9). And I use Windows 7 Home Basic. So, there's no helping it?

  6. Yep, I can see all the original ones, as usual. Just not the new ones :\

I googled this issue, and found a Google Chrome extension that supposedly displays emojis, but it didn't work for me (forgot to mention that, lol)

Edit: Ok, so I also found out about a font named Segoe UI Emoji, and installed it. The "emojis" changed ever so slightly:

  7. Hey ^_^

I meant to ask this a while ago, but I forgot. I noticed that we now have the option to use emojis instead of just the standard smileys, however, I can't see any of them. When people use them, they look like squares to me, and if I try to use them, they look like this:

    emoji.png

What gives? Do you guys reckon this is a browser issue, or perhaps something with my computer?

  8. Omg, I see these everywhere, and I'm always tempted to buy one! I never do though, because I need to save money and I already have enough plushies, lol. I have allergies, so I can't have a bunch of plushies sitting in my room. I used to collect Neopets plushies and all sorts of panda plushies, but I eventually gave a bunch of them away, and kept my favourites in a box. I regret donating some of the Neopets ones, I wish I had kept them all.  The panda collection was indeed getting out of hand, so at least I don't regret that.

Anyway, one time I almost bought a smaller version of that shiny dragon one you have... It's so pretty! I also love how much variety they have in their catalogue. I remember seeing spiders, owls, bats (be still, my goth heart!), goats, raccoons, fish... One time I even saw a skeleton-ghost-thing? Amazing!

  9. I think the easiest place to start would be the Neopian Pharmacy, because there isn't a huge variety of items and it's not competitive. There are actually only three profitable items that stock there, which are Extra Thick Goggles, Sporkle Syrup and Magic Goop. Since you know exactly what to look for, you won't make a bad investment. You will usually make a 10k profit for the goggles, ~50k for the syrup, and ~25k for the goop. Once you get the hang of it, you'll probably get bored with the pharmacy, so the next easiest place would be the magical bookshop, as kayahtik suggested.

  10. Oh, so it is working! I'm pleasantly surprised. At first glance, I'm pleased with the prizes too!

For anyone who hasn't been able to access the shop, try this link: http://www.neopets.com/altador/colosseum/2018/prizes.phtml

The thing I'm happiest about is that I can afford the stamp! :happydance:I had to force myself to reach rank 10 this year because I haven't been playing as much neo lately, and I was afraid that I would need to reach at least rank 15 to get the stamp.

  11. I'm a little late to the party, but I still want to contribute, lol.

@ladyblack Nice to see another fellow Brazilian here!

I'm originally from São Paulo as well, but I've lived in a city that's ~1.5 hours away since I was 3 years old. I kinda like it here, because it has a lot of the benefits of a big city, without being as crazy as SP, lol. What I don't like here is the weather... it's too hot and sunny.

@jellysundae The "latino" thing is kinda controversial here. As @ladyblack said, we don't refer to ourselves as such, and a lot of people are offended by it. I think there are several reasons for that, but one of them is that we are "culturally different from other South American countries". In my opinion that's a silly argument because all countries are culturally different from each other, there isn't a universal "latino culture". It seems that Spanish speaking countries in South America tend to be lumped together, and some Brazilians don't want Brazil to be lumped in with them. I suppose that wanting to be recognised for your own culture is fair, but it's not fair to reject the label merely over the assumption that we're different, while all the others are the same. As for race, I consider myself white here, but I refer to myself as White Latin American internationally.

The strike seems to be over, so that's a relief!

@Nielo I've never been to The Netherlands, but I lived in a city founded by Dutch immigrants here in Brazil for about 6 months :D So I learned a thing or two about Dutch culture, haha. I know a few children's songs like Het Regent and Toen Onze Mop Een Mopje Was, I got sweets from Zwarte Piet at school (not gonna lie, it was a bit weird lol), and I learned to eat Hagelslag (for those of you who aren't familiar, look it up. It'll change your life :laughingsmiley:).

Edit: I just remembered about this video!

So, @deboratibi and @rntracy1 did your high scores come from using the numbers?

In my case, yep, I always play with numbers! I'm surprised you feel that the symbols are easier to follow... That screenshot you posted makes my head hurt, lol. I'm not usually a fan of numbers (I'm more of a word game kind of gal), but in this case I think the numbers are more straightforward. Everyone knows 1 is followed by 2, which in turn is followed by 3. So you just go 1-2-3-2-1-2-1-2-3...

Oh, and for a higher score, I always make sure to get at least one golden tile in the first level. If I don't, I restart the game. I usually score somewhere between 30k and 50k in level 1. My highest score ever was 753,900, which earned me a bronze trophy (it was one of the few trophies I earned by accident - I love this game so much! :laughingsmiley:).

  13. @Angeló I usually don't mind when they make AAA's score somewhat low, but today I'm annoyed because whenever it's very easy to beat AAA, Abigail's prize becomes rarer (and more expensive). I want to buy the snow globe, but I'm having a bit of trouble because 1) there's another item with the same name, so that complicates the search; 2) the cheapest one I found so far was priced at 75k. Hopefully it will get cheaper? Or maybe I'll manage to snipe an underpriced one. :nerd:

@Duma I know, right? And if they don't want to check the database, they should at least try and add in an adjective. That would decrease the chances of repeating item names. Since the snow globe is animated, they could have named it Shiny Snowmuncher Snowglobe or Glittery Snowmuncher Snowglobe.

Anyway, despite my complaints, I'm glad that there are new items for my gallery. I look forward to the DD every year because Snowmuncher is always included (I hope this never changes!) :D

  14. I'm a little disappointed with the prizes... I mean, the book is nice. But what in Neopia is THIS:

    foo_snowmuncher_drink.gif

Ugh. This looks like some bootleg nonsense. And that's not all... The description says, "This is the Snowmunchers favourite drink. You know why."

Excuse me, but who is "the Snowmuncher"? His name is Dieter cry.gif

The snowglobe looks alright, except... We already have an item named Snowmuncher Snowglobe :tired:

  15. lol it's not Project Runway, it's RuPaul's Drag Race! :D The contestants are drag queens, and they have to complete challenges that involve creating looks, performing on stage (choreography, lip syncing, etc), among other things. At the end of each episode, the two "worst" drag queens have a lip syncing battle, and whoever wins, gets to stay on the show (that's when Ru says "shantay, you stay") and the other gets eliminated ("sashay away"). Before the lip syncing battle he says "The time has come, for you to lip sync for your life!", and that's why I used to say "The time has come for you to vote for your favourite entries!" lol
