Scoobs FTW, he's got the knowledge - TDN's unofficial IT help desk.

It would be be a great help to everyone if this could be pinned. He can then edit and update that one post as things change, rather than having to type it all out all over again the next time someone has the same problem!

For me, Gourmet Bowls is unresponsive in IE tab and even though I can play it in Safari for Windows, it doesn't seem to keep score at all and I never progress at all. It's very frustrating.

Unfortunately, "IE Tab" suffers from the game "freezing" I have experienced when using IE 11. As it uses the "IE engine", it makes sense, but, yes, it is frustrating. I tried playing GCB with IE yesterday, and it did freeze. Also, I had the full black box. It did not disappear, as it had in the past, when going through the instructions. That is why I prefer to use the last version of Safari for Windows. I seem to have less "problems" with it and most, if not all, of the Shockwave games work.

Does your scoring in Gourmet Bowls work okay in Safari? I can play the game just fine, but my score doesn't register.

EDIT: I didn't realize how the levels worked. I just wasn't reaching the end of them to get the score to show. My bad!

Not quite sure what you mean. Unfortunately, the black box now seems permanent, when using Safari, IE 11, or Chrome, and it covers the score box. So, I don't know how I'm doing score-wise, during the game. However, I just played a game of GCB and won round 1. As I used the "shepherd" cheat code, my score of 420 did post, when I clicked "Send Score".

Have you tried any of the other Shockwave games (Attack of the Slorgs, Castle Battles, Dice Escape, Frumball, Hannah and the Ice Caves, Hannah and the Pirate Caves, and TROTRODS - The Return of the Return of Dr. Sloth)? Do they do the same? On the Gourmet Club Bowls page, does it show "Your High Score XXXX" and "This month: XXXX", where the "X"s would be your scores?

EDIT: I just saw your post. Glad it is working! Just curious - does the black box go away for you, or is it always there? TY!

Thanks for posting this, I have been stuck trying to get the top gamer avatar for months not knowing that chrome was the problem all along.

TDN has a great tool to let you know what games you have left to play to get the "Top Gamer" avatar, located here: http://thedailyneopets.com/articles/top-gamer-games/. If you've been a long time Neopian (older account and have played some of the old "sponsored" games, during Viacom's tenure), you might not even have to play the Shockwave games, to get the avatar. And, "mirror" games also count towards the avatar, too. Just be sure to NOT play the "mirror" game and "regular" game on the same day.

It's always there unfortunately. If I click and hold on it, it shrinks a bit so I can at least see the whole field. It grows back once I let go of it, but at least it's something.

Thank you for all the help posted on this thread. This is a recurring issue due to how old these games are. Unfortunately no this will not become a pinned post. A simple Forums search will yield this thread as a result, and we don't want the pinned posts clogging up the first page. I'll edit the Neopets Issues thread with a link to this thread instead.

Another option may be to host it on a pet page maybe?

Also, I miss the "Back to top" link on forum pages.... unless I'm just not seeing it...

Hey! Any chance you have ideas to play in late 2020?

I tried the seamonkey browser, IE extensions.... I can't download shockwave anywhere.

Hi there! If you're tech savvy, and you've tried everything else, I'd recommend downloading a virtual machine, running an old windows version on it (I use XP).

There are plenty of tutorials online on how to use these programs, and they can explain better than me, but here are the files I use 🙂

---

Oracle (virtual machine): https://www.oracle.com/virtualization/technologies/vm/downloads/virtualbox-downloads.html

and here's Oracle's tutorial: https://oracle-base.com/articles/vm/virtualbox-creating-a-new-vm

Operating System: https://archive.org/details/WinXPProSP3x86

and Shockwave: https://filehippo.com/fr/download_shockwave/10.1.3.018/ (you won't be able to download it within the virtual machine's internet browser, so you need to download it, then drag and drop into the VM, then install it.

---

If you don't want to go through all that stress AND you don't care about trophies/avatars/NP (and just want to play for fun): BlueMaxima's Flashpoint is a program with an archive of thousands of old flash and shockwave games that you can download to your desktop. Most Neopets games are on there, including both Hannah games and Gourmet Club Bowls; while Dice Escape and Frumball are on the request list to be added in the future. https://bluemaxima.org/flashpoint/

I hope this helps ^^

I tried logging in to Neopets on the VM, but it won't let me and the screen is wonky. And I can't drag and drop Shockwave onto the VM either, but I might be doing it wrong...

I'm still mostly on hiatus, but!

Update for those who still want to play Shockwave games (also @poninefreak if you're still around ( to drag and drop you just need to go to the VM Settings -> General -> Advanced -> Drag'n'Drop -> Bidirectional)).

Following the steps I posted above and going to the login page will result in things looking, well, garbled. In order to log in you'll need to go to neopets.com/login and then TAB down the page until you see a cursor in the garbled mess (at the bottom of the page it won't show a URL, either). Type in your username, TAB again and type your pass, then hit ENTER. You'll be logged in! Just need to have faith in your ability to type without seeing what you're typing haha.

From there, Shockwave still works!

I have something that may interest you...but I did download Shockwave but it doesn't work for Edge! Any clues into a workaround?
