Growing up our cats (and even our one dog) were always allowed outside. Where I currently live it is super unsafe for them outside though. People fly down our street like its a highway, and there are a lot of foxes, coyotes etc. that are unfortunately being pushed out of their habitats by all the new homes going up and eating animals they wouldn't normally eat. Apparently there is a bit of a feral cat problem here too, but luckily there are a few shelters and non-profit groups that take care of them and feed them. Once all the snow melts, I'm going to build an outdoor pen for Edward and Ninja to cat in. Maybe I can rig something up in one of the windows with that chipped cat flap! It's not the same as pure freedom, but at least I know he will be safe. I had him microchipped anyway just in case! Do you guys microchip yours too?
